When one thinks about the Czech Republic, the first thing that comes to mind is Prague.
But in the north of the country is the Ústí nad Labem Region, a destination that I loved, with small towns, historic fortresses, but above all, landscapes that seem taken from a postcard.
I have already made many trips around the Czech Republic.

And I warn you that it is one of the most beautiful places we have found in the country.
All the information in detail
What to see in Ústí nad Labem: mountains, wine, and a lot of history
La Ústí nad Labem Region It is one of the lesser-known gems of the Czech Republic.
A region whose names I admit took me a long time to learn because they are quite deeply Czech.
Here the historical memory of Terezín, the medieval charms of Litomerice and the winemaking tradition of Great Žernoseky.
But above all, the tremendous natural landscapes.
From the plateau of Snowshoe until the magic Bohemian Switzerland, with the famous Pravčice Gate and the amazing gorges.
For your trip to the Czech Republic, here is a complete list of tours and excursions with guide in Spanish that you can sign up for, and here are some others alternatives in English and other languages
Furthermore, cities like Teplice and its historic spas are areas where I have been able to feel the authentic relaxation so characteristic of Czechia.
And in Zatec, the birthplace of hops, we saw how Czech beer became a recognized cultural heritage by the UNESCO.
But let's take it slow.

The most spectacular places in Ústí nad Labem (our experience)
After showing you the route we took, I want to talk in more detail about why we visited each place and the most interesting things to see at each spot.
Terezín
The route by Usti nad Labem starts in Terezín, in a place that is famous for its history during the Second World War as a ghetto and prison for Jews.

But there is another part that I find equally or more interesting and that the city's tragic recent history has overshadowed.
The Nazis chose this location not by chance, but because of the tremendous 18th-century defensive system that already existed in this area.

It was built to repel attacks on Prague from Germany, since Terezín is in an area that is a natural passage from the neighboring country.
La visit to Terezín There are two parts: on the one hand, the large fortress and the entire defensive system, which I found very interesting, and on the other hand, the small fortress, which was later converted into a tragic place.
But we have a specific blog post about this place where we tell you more about it in detail.
Litomerice

After so much history, a change of mindset.
Litomerice It is a beautiful city, famous for its wines and beers.
Its medieval streets seemed perfect to me to walk around while you see a typical Czech village with its traditional architecture and colorful houses.
It's not that we'd say it's the most beautiful place in the Czech Republic or Ústí nad Labem, but after such a busy morning, something a little quieter is appreciated.
And that's why we went to a place that is very close, Great Žernoseky, where we did a tasting of local wines in a traditional winery.

If you like wine tourism, it's a great plan.
Plateau of Sněžník and Tiské stěny mountain walk
The region of Usti nad Labem It seemed to me like a true mountain paradise with landscapes that amazed me.

On the plateau of Snowshoe we took a walk in the mountains Tisá on a 4-kilometer trek, which is one of the most beautiful places I've ever been.
Snowshoe It is the largest plateau in the country, and we had already been told that it is an ideal place for a short and simple trek, but with amazing views.
The rock formations here, seen from the top, are breathtaking, but what I found most stunning was when we explored the lower part. These gorges formed such that I felt like I was on another planet.

The best thing of all is that despite being a walk of about 4 kilometers, it flew by because of how beautiful everything was.
Because it's not just that the rock formations are spectacular, but the forest in which it is located is as well.
Without a doubt, this place has become one of my favorite places in the country.
Bike route along the Elbe from Decin
I simply loved this bike ride, and from what we were told, it is the most spectacular in the region. Ústí nad Labem.
We were coming from the spectacular morning hike, and after lunch, I had lost a bit of my desire to go cycling.

I even thought about having an abortion and just walking around the city. Decin and take the afternoon more calmly.
But as I was doing the route, I realized I had made the right decision.
The Elbe River It is one of the most voluminous rivers in the country and in this area of the Czech Republic it flows through some impressive gorges.
We made the journey from Decin up to the border with Germany, which we even crossed.
A perfect bike path, completely flat, and overall a very enjoyable route.
The landscapes we saw served as a perfect introduction to what awaited us the next day.
Pravčická Brána, the icon of Ústí nad Labem

The highlight of this trip is usually the incredible Pravčická Brána. Although I already warn you that I was more impressed by the next visit
This is the icon of every Czech tourist guide.
This entire area is a natural park famous for its impressive rock formations and its National Park, established in 2000.
Known as the Bohemian Switzerland It has rocks that were formed millions of years ago under ancient seas, and the erosion of wind, rain and sun turned them into a spectacular landscape that today attracts hikers, climbers and photographers from all over the world.
The name "Bohemian Switzerland" has a curious origin: in the 18th century, Romantic artists and travelers from Europe compared its landscapes to those of Switzerland, and the nickname stuck. The area combines history, nature, and culture in one place, allowing you to explore trails that cross borders without needing a passport.
This trail has more elevation gain than the first day's, and you go through the forest until you reach the largest stone gate in Europe.
Honestly, if I had come here a few years earlier, I think I would have been more impressed.

The problem is that just a few years ago, a massive fire swept through the region, devastating many trees and transforming the landscape. Drought, poor species selection, and decades of logging contributed to the rapid spread of the fire.
However, nature has an amazing resilience. Just a month later, new nests and green shoots began to appear. Today, the forest shows signs of regeneration, and walking among these rocks and trees is a testament to the power of natural resilience.
River gorges Kamenice, the secret of Ústí nad Labem
As beautiful as the morning was in the middle of the natural park, I can tell you that I enjoyed the afternoon visit more.
Very close to Pravčická Brána There is the small town of Mezna, and that is where a trail begins that is not very long but with a lot of vertical descent.
This takes you to the gorges of the Kamenice River, which have been etched in my head forever.
They are like a story, a river with a large volume of water, rocks, cliffs and forests that invite you to disconnect.
The trail is very simple because it runs alongside the river, but I assure you that you'll be left with your mouth open the whole time.
At the end, a short 15-minute ride awaits you on a boat resembling a Venetian gondola.
A place that leaves you speechless

Teplice, the spa town
The Czech Republic is one of the most impressive areas of Europe if we talk about hot springs, as we were able to see when we toured the Karlovy Vary region.
In this country, even the doctor can prescribe you to go to a spa as a treatment paid for by the State.
And one of the most famous sites in the country is in Teplice
Here the plan is simple, walk, relax and let yourself be pampered by your traditional spa.
It is not an essential visit, but it is necessary if, as in our case, you do a lot of Physical activity in the nature of Ústí nad Labem.
Žatec, the cathedral of hops

As the last stop of the trip we visited a place Heritage for something very curious.
Zatec has that statement from the UNESCO thanks to its beer history and its hop landscapes.
Here you can visit the Hop Cathedral and of course you can taste good beer at the brewery U Orloje.
It is an area full of hop crops And perfect for understanding the beer-drinking tradition of the country where it's cheaper to drink beer than water, I assure you!
