I admit that until recently the Costa Brava It was one of my pending items on my travel agenda.

It is true that many years ago I visited places like Roses o The scale, and who had subsequently traveled through the Lower Ampurdán knowing, for example, Pals y Palamos, but I still had (and have…) a lot to see.

For example, I really wanted to meet a typical coastal fishing village, surrounded by coves and Mediterranean forest, which had not been invaded by large tourist apartment buildings.

On one of my last trips to this area of the northeast of Catalonia I was able to enjoy the festivals of the Costa Brava, and I also took the opportunity to see medieval towns as in peratalla o Besalú.

But I have also had the opportunity to meet one of the most picturesque villages that can still be seen in a route along the Costa Brava: Calella de Palafrugell.

In this old fishing village with less than a thousand inhabitants, which maintains all that charm that I was looking for.

Yes, it is true that during the summer months it is packed with vacationers, but its streets, its houses, its small coves preserve that atmosphere that I expected to find.

I've read that Joan Manuel Serrat he composed his song Mediterranean coast in the old Hotel Batlle de Calella de Palafrugell.

It must have been like that, as it is one of the most charming towns I have visited in recent times.

Furthermore, during our visit we reached Calella de Palafrugell in the best possible way, during a walk through the parapet walk that connects it with the nearby also very touristy town of Llafranc.

Llafranc Ronda Route

This path that runs along the coast, from where you have the most beautiful views of Llafranc and the small coves in the area, allow you to enter directly into Calella de Palafrugell for promenade in which its small beaches follow one another.

In its most central Port Bo beach you can still see on the sand fishermen's boats.

Barcas Beach in Calella de Palafrugell

For this reason, this enclave is also known as the Barcas beach.

Next to this beach, you have others small covesas hornbill, Port Pelegri, Canadell o Malaespina Port.

On your walk through the urban area you will find narrow streets and houses with bright white facades.

And yes, in summer, many visitors, mostly from Barcelona, but also German, French or Dutch tourists.

All these tourists have chosen to spend their vacations in this high-rise town. standing where you won't find prices low cost.

To complete the attractions of Calella de Palafrugell, to highlight two great events that are held every summer.

Cap Roig Festival in Calella de Palafrugell

On one hand, the Cap Roig Festival, which for years has concentrated on the Cap Roig Botanical Garden to very prominent artists, one of the most prominent festivals celebrated on the Costa Brava, and of which during my visit I attended a concert of Julieta Venegas.

And on the other hand, the Havaneres which takes place in the aforementioned Port Bo beach at the beginning of July.

As a summary I will tell you that I liked it so much, that in my opinion only the possibility of discovering and walking around Calella de Palafrugell justifies a trip to the Costa Brava.

  • Calella de Palafrugell

Little fishing village full of charm... My mother told us a lot about it, since she was Catalan and went every summer to spend the summer at her uncles' house... She had beautiful and indelible memories... She told us vivid stories of her adolescence and youth... She was a good swimmer and they created swimming events and championships... Calella still preserves its very special landscape, colors and joy... Let's take care of and protect our coasts, which are our habitat, they are part of of our lives indelible memories, customs and we hope they are the present and future in one of the most beautiful and touristic parts of Spain... Greetings and Happy summer

  • Costa Brava is an interesting place and attracts the attention of a type of tourists who are interested in coasts watching themselves fish. This blog is informative. On your trip to India and Nepal you will be able to see the Chinese way of fishing on the coast of Cochin. It is the same coast where Vasco-Da-Gama first arrived and then many Europeans arrived.
