One of my recent trips to Costa Brava, northeast of Catalonia, had as its main objective to attend some of the concerts of the Costa Brava summer festivals,
But my intention was also to take the opportunity to learn about some of the medieval towns that are preserved in the province of Girona, and in this regard in peratalla It occupied a special place.
I admit that until not long ago I had not heard of in peratalla, but my curiosity was aroused by the fact that he was part of one of the places to discover in Spain in a summer contest held by Skyscanner.
And after visit Peratallada he intoned mea culpa for not having known until now the existence of a town with such charm on the Costa Brava.
All the information in detail
This is the experience of visiting Peratallada, the best thing to see
We visit many times medieval towns which, in reality, barely preserve a good part of its historic center in which, furthermore, the harmony of its architecture has not been able to be maintained.
And it is also common that along with medieval enclosure Generally walled, a much more modern population area without any charm extends.
But that is not the case at all. in peratalla.
Here you can sign up for a Free Tour or a Private Tour with the help of a tour guide, know better Peratallada and its history, and as a complement, this information will be useful to you with Tours and activities on the Costa Brava that you can sign up for, and also other alternatives of Tours and guided visits in English and other languages
Located in the municipality of Forallac, in the Lower Ampurdán from Girona, when you arrive on the road from vulpellacIf you are driving too fast or distracted, I warn you that you are in danger of going too far.

Only a small section of wall with an entrance arch lets you know that you have arrived. in peratalla.
On the left, next to a church, you have one of the three parking lots that surround the town.
The fact that these parking spaces are paid during the summer and on weekends is the first warning that this is a very touristy town.
San Esteban Church in Peratallada
As I have mentioned, specifically said parking lot is located next to the St. Stephen's Church, a Romanesque building from the 13th century with three naves that houses the tomb of the Baron Gilabert de Cruilles inside.
As soon as you cross the entrance arch of the walled enclosure you will realize that in peratalla is a medieval town with great charm.

Maintains great harmony in its country architecture, which invites you to “get lost” on your walk through its narrow and winding streets, as well as to cross under the numerous arches and passages that you will come across.
The first historical references of in peratalla related to his castle palace They date back to the year 1065, although archaeological remains found have shown that their origins come at least from Roman times.
My advice is that you accept their invitation and get lost in its alleys looking for its most beautiful medieval corners.
You will verify that in peratalla It is a very small town, with just over 200 inhabitants, so your visit should be slow to enjoy its great charm.
It won't take you long to walk through it all, and if you like photography, you won't get tired of photographing it.

Plaza de las Voltes in Peratallada
You will see that the so-called Voltes Square, with its charming arcaded area, is the hub of life for in peratalla, which it shares with the adjacent Castle plaza, where in a bar you will find the tourist office.
Our Peratallada visit It was midday on a sunny August holiday.

And since there were hardly any visitors at that time, we assumed that all the tourists must be on some of the nearby beaches in this area of the Lower Ampurdán in the Costa Brava.
But I warn you that on summer evenings or weekends, or on a cloudy day in August, in peratalla It is filled with tourists walking through its streets.
The numerous restaurants that you will find on your walk through the town are new warning of its great tourist aspect.

But as I often comment on my travels, at the sight of charming places , the in peratalla, “how can there not be tourists!”
Without a doubt, autumn is a very good time to visit Peratallada, since the reddish color of the leaves of the numerous vines that cover a good part of the facades of the houses surely give the town a special charm.
A good excuse to visit it again if you already know it.

As an invitation to visit it, below you have more photos of Peratallada, charming medieval town in the Lower Ampurdán in the Costa Brava de Catalonia.

Hello good! The truth is that Peratallada is one of the most charming towns in all of Empordà. If you like medieval villages, there are quite a few in the area, but this one is undoubtedly among the most beautiful 🙂
Thanks for the response Ramón, in the end we visited both Peratallada and Pals for one morning and we loved them both.
Being in Gerona for several days, we decided to visit this town, and we really loved it, we did it in May 2021. We ate in a hotel restaurant, and the quality-price ratio was reasonable. With about 3 or 4 hours you can walk, however, you cannot enter anywhere, not even the church, I imagine it was due to the Coranovirus. Go, you won't regret it, but if you do it in the morning then about 6 km away is Pals
which is beautiful but smaller.
Hello,
We are planning the route along the Costa Brava and we would like to know how much time you recommend dedicating to Peratallada, if about 2/3 hours would be fine.
Thank you! 🙂
Hello,
Excellent article about this beautiful town of Peratallada in Girona. Without a doubt, it must be a real spectacle to be able to enjoy the views of those beautiful stone houses.
A pleasure
GREETINGS
I love this town, it is very beautiful, close to Pals. Also, in a corner of the town there is a store where they make artisan Muffins…
