Surely you know that we are in the year of El Greco. Specifically, in the celebration of the fourth centenary of the death of Cretan painter, whose life was so linked to the city ​​of Toledo.

For this reason, organized by the El Greco Foundation 2014, for this year an extensive program of exhibitions and other cultural activities which take place mainly in Toledo, but also in Madrid and in other Spanish cities.

After the start of the cultural activities of El Greco 2014 on January 18 with an original Bell Concert in Toledo. during which the bell-ringing musician Llorenc Barber used the bell towers of up to 16 churches and convents of Toledo, the first of the samples planned for the El Greco 2014 exhibition program,

This is the exposure Contemporary Toledo, a photography exhibition that takes place in the San Marcos Cultural Center, from February 18 to June 14.

Thirteen internationally renowned photographers participate in the exhibition, presenting photographs of the city of Toledo taken throughout 2013.

These are different visions of the city in homage to El Greco.

The participating photographers are: Massimo Vitali, José Manuel Ballester, Dionisio González, Shirin Neshat, Michael Rovner, David Maisel, Rinko Kawauchi, Matthieu Gafsou, Marcos López, Floreal Surun, Vik Muniz, Philip Lorca di Corcia and Abelardo Morell.

The ticket prices They are the general one, 3 euros, and the reduced one, 1,50 euros, from which seniors +65, children from 2 to 12 years old, holders of the Youth Card, students from 18 to 25 years old and the unemployed benefit.

The main event of this year of celebrations is the exposure The Greek of Toledo, the largest exhibition of the painter's work that has ever been held.

This exhibition is held from March 14 to June 14, and brings together more than one hundred works by Greco coming from 29 different cities around the world.

The exhibition The Greek of Toledo you can see it in Museum of Santa Cruz de Toledo, which is the main headquarters, but also in the so-called Greco Spaces, among which are the Toledo Cathedral, church of Santo Tomé or Tavera Hospital.

El Prado Museum in Madrid It also has a great role in this year dedicated to Greco.

Specifically, from March 31 to June 29, the exposure The Greco Library, which presents 40 books that were part of the artist's personal library, from the Prado Museum Library and the National Library.

The great exhibition that has been scheduled at the Prado museum is the exposure El Greco and Modern Painting, which analyzes how the artist's rediscovery influenced the painting of the 19th and 20th centuries.

This exhibition is held from June 24 to October 5, and in it you can see, along with paintings by the Greco, works by Picasso, Pollock, Manet, Cezanne, Bacon y Saura, among other artists.

Meanwhile, in the National Museum of Sculpture of Valladolid, from April 29 to July 27, the exposure Twelve views of El Greco, with works by contemporary artists who have been influenced by the Cretan artist.

And in the Museum of Santa Cruz de Toledo, from September 8 to December 9, you have the exposure El Greco, Art and Craft, where works by El Greco are shown along with replicas and versions made in his day in his workshop.

For example, in this exhibition you can compare for the first time the different versions of The Looting.

In addition to the exhibitions, among the Greco 2014 celebration events dance and music parades, theatrical performances, dance and fire shows, and an extensive program of concerts take place within the cycle Centennial Music.

Gastronomic activities are also planned under the motto Taste Greco, where commemorative menus stand out in 50 restaurants in Toledo.
