France, 1938−1947: from Picasso to Dubuffet comes from Paris, and is made in collaboration with the Musée d'Art moderne de la Ville de Paris, Paris-Musées.

With the sponsorship of the BBVA Foundation, more than 500 works by a hundred artists are presented, which includes documents, photographs and even unpublished films in which the artists are shown “they made war on war“. In the different sections of the Guggenheim exhibition This process of artistic creation is analyzed from different perspectives. After locating the historical period, it shows how situations such as exile, deprivation of freedom or the Liberation in 1944 influenced the creative process. Among the various thematic areas, there is the one dedicated to Picasso, who during his stay in Paris suffered special persecution by the Gestapo and his art was considered degenerate by the official Vichy Regime, or to the Jeanne Bucher Gallery, an Alsatian who opened a simple gallery to house the works of artists marginalized by the Occupation.
