First of all, I must admit that I do not know Tudela, riding a Navarre. Or, rather, I have been twice, and on both occasions the main objective was to go to eat at a certain restaurant.
That happened to me many years ago, in my first trip to Navarra, and it happened to me again on my recent trip to that land. We arrived to Tudela with the schedule already very tight, and we had to leave her promptly to return to Pamplona.
Therefore, my only experience in this brief stay in Tudela has been enjoy Navarrese cuisine in the restaurant L and ele. And it has been an excellent experience…as it happened years ago.
We had been warned that we would meet two very nice women, Lola and Laura, mother and daughter, from Albacete, who six years ago established the restaurant in the neighborhood of La old Jewish quarter, very close to the cathedral, in a not very large place. And I can confirm that they really are nice.
But although customer service is very important when it comes to sitting in a restaurant, the key is undoubtedly in the quality of the dishes you enjoy, and this Tudela restaurant It once again confirmed to me the great fame that this Navarrese town has for its gastronomic qualities.
L and ele is a restaurant of market kitchen, which although it presents a not very extensive menu, offers various alternatives at different times of the year.
Specifically, in spring, the ideal time to taste the wide variety of vegetables that have made Tudela famous, menus are offered that exclusively taste various vegetables.
On my recent visit, although outside of that ideal time, I was able to taste a stewed onions really surprising. If she closed her eyes she believed she was enjoying the softness of some asparagus.
Along the same lines I want to highlight the crispy chard stalks, stuffed with fresh foie, and with red wine and port reduction. I have always liked chard, but I had never tried it with this preparation that makes it so different.
The tasting at this restaurant in Tudela also included some glass peppers very tasty and artichokes with foie, also exquisite.
I was also able to try a tuna with tomato sauce and peppers, on point, and a meat could not be missing. In this case, it was a old beef chop, ideal if you like meat with a strong flavor.
And for dessert, a delicious caramelized French toast with sweet bread in cold milk. To lick your fingers…
