El Kinze de Cuchilleros Hair Salon, the oldest barbershop in Madrid

On your walk around the Plaza Mayor you will find the oldest barbershop in Madrid.

This is the El Kinze de Cuchilleros Hair Salon, which you will find going down from the Plaza Mayor by Knife Bow, at number 15 of this street, next to the centenary Sobrino de Botín restaurant.

La El Kinze de Cuchilleros Hair Salon opened its doors in the year 1900 , being its first owner Eladio Gurumeta.

As this traditional barbershop did not have any commercial name, it finally took as its name the number of the street where it is located.

Thus, the Kinze of Cuchilleros, which is what the hair salon is currently called, shows us a traditional decoration, with numerous souvenirs and old photographs hanging on its walls, and elements typical of the old barber shops in Madrid, such as the same armchair that is displayed on its door.

In sum, one of the centenary establishments in Madrid, and a corner that maintains the charm of Madrid more traditional

  • Just to correct you that it is not the oldest in Madrid, it is one of the oldest, but there are even older ones... on Santa Engracia Street, 56 there is a barbershop with an opening license from 1897 and in the area of Serrano Street there is another also before 1900. Best regards!!
