Until May 25 you can still visit one of the great cultural attractions during the last few months in Madrid, which comes from the Christmas season: the exhibition of the Masaveu Collection en CenterCibeles Center.

under the motto From Romanesque to Illustration, Image and Matter, during your visit you will be able to see a total of 63 works made by, from anonymous medieval masters, to famous artists, among whom are Zurbaran, Alonso Cano, Murillo, Ribera o El Greek.

This exhibition is part of the series Patronage at the service of Art, which premiered during Christmas 2012-2013 with the exposure The Legacy of the House of Alba.

La Masaveu collection It is the result of the work of patronage since the second half of the 19th century. Pedro Masaveu Rovira , and his successor, Elias Masaveu.

The Catalan founder living in Asturias, founder of the Masaveu Bank, established the foundations of what has become one of the most important private art collections in Spain, with more than 1.500 pieces ranging from Romanesque to contemporary art.

Currently, this collection is managed by the Maria Cristina Masaveu Peterson Foundation, established in 2006.

As a curiosity, it should be noted that during the process of preparing the exhibition the authorship of a sculpture by Peter of Mena, previously attributed to Alonso Cano, and the attribution of some works has also been changed, such as the monumental Liberation of Saint Peter, previously considered Zubaran, and now attributed to Bartolomeo Cavarozzi.

Most of the works that you will be able to see in CenterCibeles Center You have a theme of religious and spiritual inspiration.

The exhibition has a chronological route that begins with the Romanesque and Gothic arts, in which the use of wood and gold are predominant.

The majority of the medieval works presented correspond to the Gothic period, where polychrome sculptures stand out such as The Calvary, from the 13th century, or the seated virgin, from the 14th century.

The next area of ​​the exhibition is dedicated to the period between the Gothic and the Renacimiento, with all the paintings done on wooden boards. The triptych of Joos Van Cleve and the table Mathis Gerung.

And, of course, a reduced version of the Looting which el greco painted for Toledo Cathedral.

Next comes a section with various canvases by great artists such as Cavarozzi, Vincent Carducho, Jose de Ribera y Francisco de Zurbarán.

The exhibition ends with a space dedicated to Andalusian baroque painting, where pieces from the Madrid collections of the Spanish Bourbons in the 18th and 19th centuries are also presented.
