If you are coming from trip to Madrid before May 10, and you still haven't had the chance to visit the impressive British Museum in London, you still have the opportunity to visit the exhibition “Treasures of the Cultures of the World”, in the Canal Art Exhibition Center, in the Plaza de Castilla in Madrid.

This exhibition reviews the evolution of world cultures, from all continents, based on a select sample of artistic objects of all kinds from the British Museum of London, completed with objects from Museum of America in Madrid.

Thus, starting from a tool from the Stone Age, more than 1,4 million years old, the visit to the exhibition you will start it with several objects of the Ancient Egypt, including a replica of the Rosette Stone, one of the most visited pieces in the British Museum, as well as a coffin and a mummy.

After seeing other objects of African origin, during your visit you will enter the Middle East area, where you will be able to see pieces of the culture of Mesopotamia, like the figure of the Divine Guardian, from 800 years BC

Europe It also has its place in the exhibition of the “Treasures of the Cultures of the World” in Madrid, with the most varied objects, from Classical Greece and Rome, such as a sculpture of two dogs, to medieval times, such as the Lewis Chess pieces originally from Norway, from the 12th century.

In the area dedicated to Asia, you can see everything from a standing Buddha figure from the 2nd century, or a large Buddha head from Japan, to colorful musical instruments from Java. Or also representations of byzantine art, like the Smolenskaya Icon of the Mother of God, from the 16th century.

As you leave the exhibition, in a long corridor you will see an interesting schedule that shows you different stages in the history of Humanity, since the Stone Age. Images of the most notable objects presented in the exhibition have been incorporated into this schedule.

During your visit you can also watch a documentary about the history and activities of the British Museum. The visit will take you about an hour.

El Canal Art Exhibition Center It is located in Plaza de Castilla, on the right as you arrive along Paseo de la Castellana from the center of Madrid.
