The villa of Mondoñedo, which you find northeast of the province of Lugo, near Ribadeo, was one of the seven ancient capitals of the Kingdom of Galicia, and is well worth a visit for its monumental complex, where its cathedral, known as Basilica of the Assumption.

But if there is a time when Mondoñedo takes us to other historical periods is, without a doubt, during the celebration of his Medieval Market, which is celebrated every year on the second weekend of August, and which I had the opportunity to visit during my last trip to Galicia.

From Friday afternoon until Sunday, the streets and squares of Mondoñedo are decorated in a medieval atmosphere, with flags and banners, and a market with stalls selling all kinds of products, where gastronomic and artisan products stand out.

Likewise, the thousands of visitors who walk through its streets are welcomed by the residents of the town who have dressed for the occasion in medieval clothing.

During that lively walk you can enjoy with Shows of juggling or falconry, developed in the center of the Plaza de la Mondoñedo Cathedral. You can even see a medieval wedding carried out by a characterized Bishop of Mondoñedo.

The stalls with sweets and artisan breads and local wine, and the octopus prepared by the typical pulpeiras, will allow you to enjoy the gastronomy of the area.

If you have not yet had the opportunity to experience the atmosphere of a typical medieval market, here you have a gallery of photos of the Medieval Market of Mondoñedo, in Galicia.
