Those of you who are regular readers of Travel Guides You know that I have always had a special attraction for the northern regions of Spain, specifically, Cantabria y Asturias.

The combination of green landscapes, with mountains and coastal areas, has led me to travel frequently to these areas of the peninsula.

And, on the other hand, I have always had the prejudice that Estremadura, among other Spanish regions, is dry land.

my last trips to Extremadura, especially in northern areas of the Community, has led me to discover the charm of meadow landscapes in winter and spring.

But until excursion to the Jerte Valley that I did on the occasion of the Cerecera, I didn't know that in this area there are landscape corners that take you to the north of the peninsula.

Indeed, I could not imagine that in the various gorges that extend through the valley you can find landscapes of incredible lushness, with a succession of waterfalls in which the water flows surrounded by great vegetation.

How to get to Nogaledas Gorge in Valle del Jerte

I have been able to confirm this during the hiking route through the Nogaledas Gorge.

If you are fond of Hiking, in the Jerte Valley you currently have up to 19 marked routes that run between steep gorges and slopes full of cherry trees.

This contrast of landscapes undoubtedly gives these routes a very special appeal.

The aforementioned Nogaledas Gorge route Part of town of Navaconcejo, where after crossing the stone bridge that crosses the Jerte River, along a path goes to the mouth of the gorge.

What it is like and what to see in the Nogaledas Gorge

It is a hiking route de circular route, low difficulty, just over four kilometers, and an estimated duration of an hour and a half in its simplest version.

From the beginning, and even more so if it is a year with a lot of rain, you enter places of lush vegetation where you find poplars, alders and ash trees on the banks of the gorge.

You will walk along a well-marked path, with some steeper areas, and in this first section you will find up to four waterfalls that will surprise you with their waterfalls.

Each of these waterfalls They are an excuse to rest and enjoy a landscape that, at least to me, did not seem typical of Estremadura.

After overcoming the fourth waterfall, you reach a forest track, and after a few meters, just after crossing the gorge, to the right you have the option of going up to a fifth waterfall, access that is not included in the signposted route.

Although you will see a warning sign with the emergency telephone number for possible emergencies, don't be scared, because although it is a steeper and somewhat more complicated section, it is perfectly accessible.

Once this last waterfall has been seen, the return to Navaconcejo You do it on a narrow unpaved track.

In these mid-hillside areas you will move between oaks, chestnut trees and, of course, cherry tree crops.

If you go during the summer season, until the beginning of August you will find the cherry trees full of cherries, and it is possible that you will not be able to resist and will escape your hand to try some of these delicious red fruits.

And if you do the route during cherry blossom season, you will move among the spectacular landscapes in which the color white prevails.

And there are a few more beautiful gorges in the Jerte Valley: there is Injertana with its waterfall at the Riscos de Cabezamerina, the gorges of La Luz and Honduras coming down from Puerto de Honduras, the gorges of Marta and Bohonal in the vicinity of Valdastillas, Los Papúos in Tornavacas, Los Pilones (which you show so beautifully in another of your wonderful Posts, La Puria between Rebollar and El Torno, and there is more. In the rest of the North of Extremadura as well, you will find paradises like this one in Vera del Tiétar , Ambroz Valley, Hurdes and Sierra de Gata.
