How to visit and what to see at the Dalí Museum (Figueras): schedules, prices

I will always remember the wonderful anthological exhibition of Dalí's work which took place in 1983 at the then Contemporary Art Museum what was in the University City de Madrid, predecessor of the current Reina Sofia Museum.

Since then I was captivated by the work of Dalí.

And although in the summer of 2013, we had the opportunity to visit the new Dalí exhibition at the Reina Sofía museum, for a long time I had a traveling goal visit the Dalí museum in Figueras.

And this objective has been a priority during one of my most recent trips to the Costa Brava, riding a Catalonia.

Indeed, the first visit I made on said trip was to the aforementioned museum installed in the hometown of the brilliant (and “crazy”….) artist, as the first stage of the tour of the so-called Dalinian triangle.

At the outset I will tell you that the Dalí Museum Theater in Figueras It can be considered one of the last great works of Salvador Dalí, who died in 1989.

Inaugurated in 1974, the artist was involved in the design and construction of this museum from the beginning, as he wanted to leave it as a legacy for his city.

For its construction, the remains of the old municipal theater of Figueras, which had been destroyed during the Civil War.

As a curiosity, said theater (and the current museum) was in front of the church where Dalí was baptized, who also considered himself a “very theatrical” artist (and it is true that he is…).

Our visit coincided with a cloudy summer day in the Costa Brava, even with some rain.

Without a doubt, it is the least advisable type of day to go to the museum, since all tourists agree to visit it by “taking advantage” of the fact that a beach day has not dawned.

If you do the same as me, you will surely find a long line of visitors at the entrance, and what is worse, inside you will walk among large crowds of visitors, including numerous groups of foreign tourists.

If you are going to go during the summer vacation season, the way to avoid the lines is precisely to take advantage of a day at the beach to visit the museum, and the option of buy tickets in advance to your visit.

It is from there that you can see the most appropriate perspective of this work that suggests a portrait of the famous artist from the 30s.

Finally, I do not want to fail to highlight the rooms dedicated to exhibiting the jewelry designed by Dalí which, as I have mentioned, are separated from the main museum premises.

In a very dark environment you can enjoy the great and surprising Dalinian design of gold and precious stone jewelry belonging to the old collection Owen Cheatham.

In total, up to 39 artistic pieces are displayed.
