Architect's work Josep Puig i Cadafalch, Amatller house It was commissioned by the chocolate industrialist Antoni Amatller Costa, who in March 1898 had purchased the property that now corresponds to number 41 of the Passeig de Gracia.

This four-story building, built in 1875, had a symmetrical façade, without any design.

Instead, Puig and Cadafalch, architect, but also art historian, had a great influence at the time of the Renacimiento.

Therefore, in the design of the building I wanted to present a modern architecture, but evocative of the glories of the past, the result of which would be an innovative trend, which corresponds to the Modernism.

The result is a façade that combines elements of various styles, from Romanesque to Baroque, with an effect of balanced asymmetry.

It also shows chromatic effects based on sgraffito, and sculptural decoration in some corners.

The last restoration of the Amatller house It was carried out between 2009 and 2015, including the museumization of the main floor, so that you can currently visit this modernist building.
