How to go by bus from the airport to Barcelona

Advantages and disadvantages of going by Aerobús bus from El Prat airport to the center of Barcelona; schedules, frequencies, ticket price

Al get to Barcelona airport, when choosing a public transport To go to the city center, apart from the taxi, you mainly have the options of the commuter train and Aerobús airport bus.

I have usually opted for the commuter train, as it is a more comfortable means of transportation, and until now I had not considered the bus option.

But since the new Termital T1 at Barcelona airport, if you arrive there, for example, on flights Iberia o Vueling, it is worth considering the Aerobus Aerobus as an interesting option.

Barcelona airport train schedules and frequency

Keep in mind that the Barcelona airport commuter train station It is located next to the old terminal, now called T2.

The train takes 24 minutes to reach the center of Barcelona, specifically, to the station. Paseo de Gracia. but it has the problem that its frequency is only every half.

El commuter train ticket price (2018) is 4,20 euros, and the Time from the center Paseo de Gracia to the airport is from 5,08:23,07 a.m. to XNUMX:XNUMX p.m.

Barcelona airport bus schedules and frequency

Now, the Aerobús airport bus Its advantage is its greater frequency.

In particular, the line A2 that takes you directly from the terminal T2 to Catalonia square, during most of the day its frequency is every 10 minutes, and only in the early hours or at night it is every 20 minutes.

Its service takes place between 6 a.m. and 1 a.m.

Barcelona airport bus ticket price

In turn, the price of the bill (2018) for the airport bus is 5,90 euros (round trip, 10,20 euros valid for return within a maximum period of 15 days).

However, if you reach the terminal T1 you must consider the Airbus as the main option for go to the center of Barcelona.

If you would like to go by train, you must first take the internal airport bus that will take you to the terminal T2.

This bus has a frequency of between 10 and 15 minutes, and takes about 7 minutes to reach the aforementioned terminal T2.

In addition, it will leave you at the entrance to the overpass that connects the aforementioned terminal with the station, a journey that will take you about 5-7 minutes.

Therefore, this is an inconvenience that can make you miss a train…and force you to wait half an hour to catch the next one.

On the other hand, at the same place in T1 where you have to take the internal bus you can get on the bus Airbus A1 which will take you to the center in about half an hour.

This line has even higher frequency than the A2, since it happens every 5 minutes for most of the day, and every 10 minutes for the rest.

Finally, if you give preference to a cheaper price at the cost of less comfort and taking longer to get to the center, you have the bus option line 46, which will bring you closer to the Spain Square and there you can connect with the metro.

In short, you choose the transportation that best suits you.

  • I had a problem with Aerobus. If you have no choice, take this means, but if not, opt for another transport. They have been left with six euros of a ticket due to an error on their part that, in their opinion, cannot be proven.
A piece of advice if you buy a round-trip ticket online for more than one person: Do not throw away even tickets that have already been used because they can make mistakes that you yourself will have to pay for without a sincere apology.

  • Hello everyone. I am from Barcelona and I have to say for your comfort and pocket, that it is better to get around with public bus number 46 of the Barcelona Metropolitan Transport (the buses are red and white). They depart from both T1 and T2. If I'm not mistaken, it goes from Plaza Espanya-Aeropuerto T1-T2. It takes approximately 30 minutes (it is the best option). Or the other is Renfe but only from T2. The aerobus is very expensive and a very bad option.

  • I usually take the regular bus (46) which costs the same as any other BCN bus. As it is a regular bus, it has several stops, the last one is in Plaza Espanya, where you can transfer to the metro or another bus. At night its equivalent is N17.

  • Very good post on how to get to Barcelona by public transport from the airport. The truth is that Barcelona has a serious problem in this regard since, on the one hand, the commuter train runs every half hour and drops you off at T2 (most flights leave from T1 and you have to take a shuttle). and the aerobus, in my opinion, is expensive. It is expensive because it costs 11,5 euros (two people) and, although it makes stops in the center of Barcelona, most of the time people have to take a second means of transport to get home or to their accommodation.

What I usually do when I'm gone for three or four days is hire a private parking service. They come to pick up my car at T1 and deliver it to me at the terminal when I arrive. The price can range between 30 euros (approximately) but it is half the price of a taxi to my house.

It is a shame that metro line 9 still does not reach El Prat. In this, Madrid has it better because the metro is fantastic…

    • Thank you for your comment, Maria Jesús.

Obviously, if there are two people traveling, the Aerobús is expensive. For those of you who live in Barcelona, the option of leaving your car in a low-cost parking lot is a good one.
