It had been many years since I had traveled to Ghent, In the Belgian region of Flanders, to the point that I barely had any images in memory, beyond the typical ones you can see in brochures or websites tourist.

But recently, taking advantage of a trip to bruges I had the opportunity to stopover at Ghent to, during one morning, take a quick tour of the city and thus have a first impression for a future trip with more time to visit it.

I assure you it was worth it.

Although the day began with a very thick sky, after a night of heavy rain, which initially endangered the photo walk through Ghent, the truth is that throughout the morning the sky opened almost completely,

Thanks to this, sunlight helped highlight the great beauty and charm of this city, without a doubt, a must on a tourist route through Flanders.

Tu walk through Ghent will focus on two main axes linked by the San Miguel bridge.

On the one hand, the canal with the old commercial docks of Graslei y Korenlei, where you find some of the most typical images of the city, with its beautiful medieval Gothic-style houses.

Thus, after going through the great Korenmarrkt pedestrian square, where the old one stands out post office building, you find the Church of San Nicolás and the tower Municipal Bell Tower along with the building of the Cloth Hall.

Then you have the Cathedral of San Bavón, where you can see the great masterpiece of Flemish painting, The Adoration of the Mystical Lamb of the brothers VanEyck.

Along that axis you have other notable buildings, such as the Town hall or the modern and controversial Municipal Pavilion.

Other notable spots that you should not miss during your walk through the medieval center of Ghent are the castle of the Counts of Flanders, a large and robust fortification, and the Meat Market, inside which you find a wide range of local products.

  • Hello, Hello (: First of all, forgive us for bothering you. We came to tell you a little about the reason for this intrusion. You see, we are two students who are in their last year and our dream is to be able to travel next year, the main countries we want to visit. travel are Italy and France. We have created a blog so that people can read it and in some way feel supported by someone, since in our environment they only say that we have a head full of birds. First we are going to write about our project, the things that we have achieved little by little to be able to do it one day and then things related to our city (Madrid) in terms of leisure, events... We hope you like it and that spreading the word would help us a little (: Greetings,
    Patricia and Carmen
