There are cities that, when it comes to visiting them, have among their attractions the important exhibitions that are usually held in museums and cultural institutions.
This is the case, for example, of Paris, London or Madrid, and also of Brussels, city that I just visited during my recent trip to Flanders, and where I could not miss the opportunity to visit the Marc Chagall exhibition shown in the Fine Arts museum until June 28 of this year.
In this retrospective exhibition which presents more than 200 works made between 1908 and 1980, you can see examples of the main themes addressed in his work by this French painter of Belarusian origin who became an important icon of the avant-garde.
Until now I had barely had the chance to see any chagall painting, of which in Spain there are only a few paintings in the Thyssen-Bornemisza museum in Madrid.
But in the current Brussels exhibition I was able to discover his initial connection with Jewish culture and its traditions, as well as his particular use of color, where the works where an intense red color predominated especially caught my attention.
In Chagall paintings, an artist who was considered persona non-grata by the Soviet regime, influences from the cubism and fauvism, and also highlights his expression of dreams.
El Belgian Fine Arts Museum (Fine Arts) where you can visit the Chagall exhibition is in the Coudenberg hill, also called museum hill, behind the Central Station and very close to the historic center.
