Surely if I quote the the Bremen musicians the popular one will come to mind childish story of the Brothers Grimm.

And you may even know that in said northern german city There is a very popular monument and very visited by tourists.

Now, do you know that the animals that are the protagonists of said story...never actually came to life? Bremen?

What is the children's story of the Bremen Musicians like?

I remind you that the popular tale of The Bremen Musicians tells the story of four animals that live in a town in the region of the lower saxony from Germany, which had fled from their respective owners because they had decided to sacrifice them.

In their escape, the donkey, the dog, the cat and the rooster meet in the field and decide to head together towards the city of Bremen.

The reason? the fame it has always had Bremen of being a liberal and welcoming city towards foreigners.

The fact is that they arrive at a hut where some bandits live, and with the idea of scaring them, they climb on top of each other so that, in the darkness of the night, they simulate a monstrous figure that, in effect, scares the bandits, who finally leave the hut.

In any case, given the popularity that this story had in the city, the Bremen Town Hall decided in 1953 to acquire the bronze sculpture that the German artist Gerhard Marks he had made two years earlier for an exhibition.

Now the monument to the Bremen musicians You can see it in a corner next to the west façade of the old town hall.

When you see it for the first time, don't be disappointed by its size, as was the case with the inhabitants of Bremen when they first saw the sculpture, smaller in size than you might imagine.

I will tell you that except for the donkey, which is located, as in the story, in the lower part of the sculpture, the figures of the other three animals are made life-size.

You will also see that the front legs of the donkey, as well as other areas of the figures, shine as a result of being caressed by tourists who visit the monument and who in this way make a wish.

I don't know if this method works.

Perhaps from a tourist point of view this sculpture could be the icon image of Bremen, but from a historical point of view, I will tell you that the nearby sculpture of Roland, whose current stone image dates back to 1404, is undoubtedly the main protagonist.

For this reason, he shares, together with the old gothic town hall, the declaration of Heritage awarded by the Unesco, and also symbolizes that spirit of freedom that gave so much fame to Bremen in the history.
