Right from the start I confirm that it is true; What's more, it is incredible buoyancy that you have when bathing in those waters and the impossibility of drowning.

Now, it is a strange experience, very peculiar, and perhaps not too pleasant.

What the Dead Sea is like: characteristics

To understand it, it is important to know what is the dead sea like, and health benefits reports bathing in its waters.

We talk about the sea, but in reality it is a great natural lake with very salty water which is located between Jordan, Israel and Palestinian territories.

In the case of my trip, we went to Dead Sea from Aqaba, the large Jordanian city located on the banks of the Red Sea.

From there it is just over 200 kilometers along a road that runs all the time through semi-desert terrain next to the border with Israel.

El Dead Sea It is located 416 meters below sea level, which makes it the lowest area of the Earth.

With a length of about 75 kilometers long and a width that does not exceed 20 kilometers, its waters come mainly from the Jordan river.

Healthy virtues of the Dead Sea

Well known are their healthy virtues, with great richness in calcium, magnesium, potassium and bromine.

They are salty waters, but, above all, very very dense, much more than those of the oceans, where there is no type of life, except for some very small crustaceans called artemia.

El Dead Sea It is located at the bottom of a great depression, so you will see very arid lands surrounded by mountains.

On the east bank, Jordan, and on the west, Israel and the Palestinian territories. At night, if you are at the height of Jerusalem, you can even see the city lights shining in the sky.

Resort hotel next to the Dead Sea in Jordan

When you arrive to shores of the Dead Sea on the Jordanian side, you do not find towns, but large resort hotels, four and five stars and European level, with touches of design and service typical of Arab countries, which are concentrated in the northern area, the closest to Amman.

Specifically, we stayed in the hotels Crown Plaza Jordan Dead Sea, type spa resort, with the rooms scattered in small buildings that surround a large central pool, which makes up a small town on the shores of the Dead Sea.

In short, you have to give yourself a first bath with flotation for no more than 10 minutes.

Then you have to go out to give yourself bathe yourself in the famous mud of the Dead Sea, which you will have at your disposal in a bucket next to the shore.

Coated in mud You have to stay there for no more than half an hour, until it dries, which is about 15/20 minutes.

Then you have to go back to the water to remove the mud well and finally go back out to take a shower May it cleanse you completely.

From Amman you can sign up for this Excursion to the desert castles and the Dead Sea, with a duration of 7 hours, and in which you will live the experience of a swim in said sea

You can only do these baths, at most, twice daily, either very early in the morning or almost at dusk.

We bathe before 9 in the morning, because later the heat increases the temperature of the water and its effects on the skin, which makes bathing inadvisable.

In practice I will tell you that when you enter the water it is incredible the feeling of buoyancy.

You can't even stand up (be careful, the ground is also full of stones), because the water pulls your legs up.

Therefore, you can only lie face down, quite uncomfortable when throwing your butt up, or face up.

DON'T FORGET YOUR TRAVEL INSURANCE

Are you organizing your trip to Jordan? Don't leave without take out your travel insurance before, and here we explain why.

If you hire it here, you have a 5% discount

The latter is the best position in which you can remain, but be very careful not to let a drop of water get into your eyes (the salinity burns), nor into your mouth.

In short, the best thing is what is recommended, a short swim during which you discover the sensation of buoyancy...and out.

  • I plan to go to Jordan at the end of March. Does the temperature allow bathing in the Dead Sea on those dates? Isn't it cold?

    • Luis, I told you that I bathed in the Dead Sea in December and the water really wasn't cold. I guess the same thing will happen in March. The truth is that it is a very very special sea, where the only thing that can bother you is the great sting of the salt.

      Good trip

  • Can you bring mud from the dead sea? I have searched multiple travel blogs but I have not been able to clarify this question.

    Thanks in advance

  • The only thing you forgot to mention is that mud makes you look chubbier, hahaha. What a good experience we had Jose and we look forward to repeating it in another destination with you. A hug and happy year!!!
