West of the big city of Shanghai, a must see in a tourist trip to China, extends a wide area where lakes and rivers abound, so that the various cities and towns are between aquatic areas.

One of the cities with the largest population in the area is Sozhou, and in its surroundings there are small ancient towns, which have become a tourist attraction thanks to the combination of buildings with traditional Chinese architecture, lakes, canals and large gardens.

These populations are renamed as chinese venice, and that is the case, for example, of Zhouzhuang. And very close to it is Tongli, next to Lake Taihu.

Tongli You can visit it just 18 kilometers south of Souzhou, and just one hundred kilometers away from Shanghai, although from here you have to expect that it will take between an hour and a half and two hours to get there.

La history of tongli It dates back more than a thousand years, and during your walk along the different canals you will be able to see numerous traditional Chinese buildings. Likewise, other attractions of the visit will be the various stone bridges that cross the canals.

The landscape complex of Tongli, with seven islands created by the conjunction of 15 rivers and five lakes, leading to the fact that to cross the canals throughout history they have been built up to 49 stone bridges, some of them in the 10th and 11th centuries.

However, the main tourist spot will be a large chinese style garden, known as the Tuisi Garden, where you will see beautiful landscape corners next to the lake.

With 700 square meters of extension, the Tuisi Garden, built at the end of the 19th century, is divided into two areas.

On the one hand, in the western part of it there are two residential buildings, and on the eastern side is the garden area itself, where you can see marble boats, pavilions, rockeries, bridges and other decorative elements typical of Chinese gardens.
