Along with the possibility of being able to see the giant panda conservation centers, the other great attraction of travel to Chengdu, in the province of Sichuan, southwest of China, is to visit the Leshan Great Buddha.

It is the largest statue sculpted in stone of a Buddha that exists in the world, which has been declared Heritage awarded by the Unesco.

El Leshan Great Buddha you will find it 140 kilometers from Chengdu, about two hours by road, in the natural environment of the Mount Emei, one of the four sacred mountains of the Buddhist religion that exist in China.

It is a huge buddha stone statue, which is carved into the rocky cliff of the Mount Lingyun.

At 70 meters high, the Leshan Great Buddha It was sculpted in the year 713, in front of the confluence of three rivers, with the intention that the buda protect the inhabitants of the area from the danger of flooding.

El Leshan Great Buddha represents the Maitreya Buddha, who is sitting with his hands resting on his knees.

How and where to see Leshan Big Buddha

Si vas a visit the Leshan Big Buddha, you have two possibilities, one from afar and another from close up.

On the one hand, you can see the stone statue from a boat sailing along the river, or also from an island located in front of it, from where you can appreciate its special location embedded in the mountain.

The other option is to see it very closely. To do this you have to go to the park located at the top of the mountain, where there are several Buddhist buildings and temples.

From this park you will arrive directly at the height of the head of the Great Buddha of Leshan.

Surely this way you will find its dimensions much more surprising, since the head alone has a height of almost 15 meters high and 10 meters in diameter.

Furthermore, through a staircase located on the side of the mountain, generally very busy with visitors, you can go down to the feet of the Great Buddha of Leshan, which have a length of 11 meters and a width of 5,5 meters.

I tell you that I have not yet had the opportunity to visit the Leshan Big Buddha, in China, although some friends who came impressed by its dimensions have done so.

In any case, I recommend reading the experiences of this visit in the personal blogs We are Chinese y Adventures of China, from which we can get an idea of what our future visit may be like.
