Tu travel by car awarded by the historic Route 66 in Arizona is going to become a search for “typical” corners that remind you of the atmosphere it had in the 50s, when it was a popular route among vacationers who from the center of United States They wanted to reach the coast of California.

Although officially this route has been relegated to the background after the creation of Interstate 40, in your trip along the west coast of the United States, if you go from Las Vegas to the Grand Canyon of the Colorado, on its southern edge, it is advisable that you turn off kingman north to follow the old route until Seligman.

Just half an hour from Kingman you will find one of the points that has become a mandatory stop for tourists.

I mean the old gas station Hackberrand, now known as Hackberry General Store.

This is one of the many towns in the western United States that emerged during the gold rush era.

Mining began in 1874, and soon, in 1882, the railway line reached Hackberry. But as soon as silver and gold stopped being found, around 1919, Hackberry became a ghost town.

Later, when the new Interstate 50 highway left this area off the route through which traffic circulated in the 40s, the various gas stations that were there were closing. And that was the case of the Hackberry gas station, which closed in 1978.

Much more recently, in 1992, an artist decided to reopen this place now known as Hackberry General Store, in which, next to a souvenir shop, what is intended to be a Route 66 museum.

When you see it you will see that it looks more like a car cemetery, because with exceptions, such as the Corvette red from the 50s, most of the cars you can see are in a dismantled state.

Of course, at the gas station you can see the historic pumps that, of course, do not work now, but which, together with other objects scattered around this enclave, make up a typical scene from the 50s.
