(This article details a stage of a coast-to-coast trip through the United States)

On this day of New York visit, in the last stage of Coast to coast trip through the United States, after seeing the Guggenheim museum, we decided to return to Central Park and cross it wide.

Once we reached the center of the Central Park, we stopped for lunch on the shores of a beautiful lake with rowboats, willows and ducks.

We didn't go to the rich restaurant, we stayed in the cheap one, without waiters, without white tablecloths, but the food was very pleasant and the beers generously refreshed us.

What Strawberry Fields is like, John Lennon's memorial in Central Park

From there we head to the most emotional and sentimental area of the tour, Strawberry Fields, where is the monument in memory of John Lennon, not failing to visit the Dakota Building where John lived (for me it's like he was a childhood friend).

The name of this garden area comes from the song Strawberry Fields Forever of Lennon and McCartney.

It was inaugurated by his widow Yoko Ono, who had supported the project, on the day John Lennon He had turned 45 years old, on October 9, 1985.

The entrance to the memorial is located right in front of the aforementioned Dakota Building, where Lennon lived during the latter part of his life, and where he was murdered.

The monument is a reproduction of a Pompeii mosaic with the inscription of a single word, the title of Lennon's famous song “Imagine".

The mosaic is located in the center of a triangle designated as quiet.

People, in respectful silence, approach the mosaic, they look at it, some pray, others cry, others place a flower, some sit on one of the surrounding benches and in silence it seems that they remember, they think.

Coinciding with our visit there was a musician who was playing John's songs softly at very low volume with a Spanish guitar.

The monument is often covered in flowers, candles and other belongings abandoned by the victims. fans by Lennon.

On Lennon's birthday (October 9) and on the anniversary of his death (December 8), people gather to sing and pay tribute, staying late on what is often a cold night.

With sadness we leave this sacred place.

Where to see the Dakota Building in New York

El Dakota It is a building that dates back to 1884, which you can find in the northwest corner between the 72 street y Central Park West.

As explained to us by a tour guide, the building has very strict rules if someone wants to buy an apartment, since it is not enough to have the much money necessary to purchase it.

Written authorization from the neighborhood community is also essential.

In his day, and despite the notoriety de John LennonSince the rest of the building's tenants did not like his appearance at all, this authorization was granted.

In front of the door of the building is where John Lennon was murdered.

And although there is no plaque or symbol that attests to this, it has become a place of pilgrimage for many people, who usually take photographs in front of the Dakota and, also, take photos directly at the ground, in the place where he supposedly fell dead.

Anyway, we just thought of saying “Thank you John” and we walked to Columbus Circus with its well-known sculpture of the globe, which is where we take the metro back to the hotel.

Upon arriving at the hotel we took a walk around the hotel, connected to the internet in the lobby and, finally, rested in the room after all the cures for my scars.
