The apache indians occupy a notable place in the still recent History of The United States.

If we are really interested in delving deeper into its culture, during our trip along the west coast of the United States we will have the opportunity to visit the Apache Culture Center and Museum, where we can also visit what remains of the famous Fort Apache.

Most of us know from western movies that Geronimo and Cochise were prestigious heads of the apache indian tribe, who faced the United States army in defense of their historical territories.

And perhaps the greatest reflection of this stage of American history is found in the mythical movie Fort Apache, by director John Ford, performed by John Wayne, which shows us the confrontation between the Apache Indians and the soldiers of the American army.

While the movie Fort Apache was filmed in the incredible landscapes of Monument Valley, if we are very interested in visiting the reminiscences of the original Fort Apache and the apache indian culture We will have to head further south in Arizona.

Specifically, if we come from northern Arizona, the town of Fort Apache, and the entire area where the Apache Culture Center, It is located three and a half hours (280 km) southeast of Flagstaff, a city north of sedona.

And if we are in Phoenix, it is a similar distance away, heading northwest on Highway 60, to take Highway 73 to the right past the town of Carrizo.

El Apache Culture Center It is a complex where we can visit the Fort Apache Historical Park, which is a pedestrian route where you can see 27 restored historic buildings, and whose origins date back to the time when the military fort was established, in 1870.

Also visited are an old military cemetery, the reconstruction of an Apache village and a museum opened in 2004, in which different original objects from the culture of the apache indians, as well as photos that illustrate its most recent history and that of the military settlement of Fort Apache.

Of course, although I have not had the opportunity to visit it, let's not expect to find the typical military fort of western movies, like the mythical Fort Apache.

El Apache Culture Center It is open to the public from Monday to Saturday (note, in winter only until Friday) from 8 a.m. to 17 p.m., and the price of admission for adults is $5.
