At this beginning of our Coast to coast trip through the United States, and after visit Philadelphia In the morning, we headed to Asbury park, which is located 125 km away, relatively close to New York.

Asbury park It is a coastal town in the Atlantic Ocean, in New Jersey, with a very attractive wooden promenade and a wide beach.

Since we were going to do a coast to coast, we thought we should see the Atlantic and touch it, to do the same in the Pacific.

Little did we know at this point that at the end of our trip, north of Boston, we would be taking a six-hour whale watching tour.

In the first half of the 20th century, Asbury park It had its years of splendor with theaters, amusement parks, a summer area, etc. since it is close to New York.

How to Visit Bruce Springsteen's Stone Pony in Asbury Park

Also located here is the stone pony, a small place, disco/drinks bar type, where concerts and live music have been held for 40 years.

Here our dear Bruce Springsteen began his career.

In fact, he has almost always lived in this area and even today he appears surprisingly, from time to time, around the stone pony to have a beer, give a concert or join the band that is playing at that time.

After having visited Asbury park In the year 2000, I was very pleasantly surprised by the great improvements experienced in this city.

Faced with a general state of abandonment, it now has a renovated promenade, the beach where there were quite a few people has been cleaned (it is a paid beach: $5 access), many bars, shops, some hotels, etc

We wanted to have attended a rock concert in stone pony, but precisely the two days that we were in the area there had been no concerts scheduled.

In our walk through Asbury Park, just as we had seen in Philadelphia, in several places, such as bars and stores, the gay flag was displayed, indicating that the establishment is gay friendly.

It is a euphemism that tries to show respect and acceptance to this community, but also with an important economic aspect.

Before getting out from Asbury park, we made a car tour through residential areas.

We really liked the complex, with American-style houses, spacious, large, many made of wood, some old and many with the American flag flying on the terraces.

There were several canals with beautiful houses on its shores.

We also stopped at a large supermarket in a shopping center, where we stocked up on products for dinners in the hotel room.

In short, a pleasant visit, with a very sunny day that really enhanced our sensations even more.
