Calgary (Canada) in one day, what is essential to see and do

Aurora has barely been able to sleep because she spent the night processing all the natural beauty we had seen today.

In our Coast to coast trip through the United States and Canada, today we have decided to have a calm and relaxed day.

We have dedicated the entire morning to getting to know the city of Calgary, riding a Canada, and then rest at the hotel in the afternoon and catch up on emails, programming and organization of the next few days.

We have informed ourselves via the Internet about the tourist attractions in the city and surroundings, as we normally do when we get up, and we see that Calgary It is the largest city in the province of  Alberta in Canada.

Where is Calgary and what is it like?

It is located in a region of hills and plateaus, about 80 kilometers east of the Rocky Mountains.

Canada's third city in population, with just over a million inhabitants, Calgary It is a well-known destination for winter sports and ecotourism: a large number of important holiday resorts are located near the city.

Remember that in 1988 Calgary became the first Canadian city to host the Winter Olympic Games.

More recently, in a survey conducted by Forbes magazine in 2007 It was rated the cleanest city in the world.

This is difficult to ensure, but the truth is that it is a city with one of the highest standards of living in the world.

Although there are various museums and exhibitions to visit, we simply opted to simply walk around the center downtown of the city, visiting the Prince's Island Park.

This is the experience of visiting Calgary in one day

Thus we were able to enjoy a pleasant tour on a very sunny day, which, being Sunday, was also very calm.

First we took a drive around the city, in which we passed by the Calgary Telecommunications Tower. 160 meters high, it is said that from the top you can see up to 150 kilometers around on clear days.

We don't go up.

On our drive we found that many of the buildings in the city center are connected to each other through elevated walkways above the streets, at approximately the height of a second floor.

This is an unequivocal symptom of the harshness of winter, since these connections allow citizens to travel from their jobs to stores, shopping centers and restaurants, without freezing on the sidewalks.

The city is modern, surrounded by parks on all sides, with two rivers that cross it, with a skyline quite complete and with some streets closed to traffic as they are dedicated solely to trams.

Many flowers (as in other Canadian cities and towns) decorate the lanterns, squares and streets.

Calgary is a very clean city which conveys quite a bit of friendliness despite the large cement blocks.

We parked the car on the banks of the bow river (free oe!! oe!!! oe!!! because it was Sunday) and we walked along the path that borders the river, which is actually a large park where many people practice sports. Little by little we approach the vicinity of prince's island park.

The surroundings of this small island in the middle of the river, which is accessed by pedestrian bridges, form a beautiful urban park.

Very well-kept gardens, with many flowers, this park offers many recreational activities.

We sit in the sun reading one of the free newspapers we picked up on the street.

There is also a nice food Fair. with stalls that offer dishes from many world cuisines at good prices.

We continued walking for a couple more hours, but on this journey we didn't see any restaurants that excited us and we decided to go eat on the outskirts of the city, near our hotel.

Finally we ended up at a very well placed restaurant called Earls.

We decided to do something extra and give ourselves a small and well-deserved tribute, despite it being a more expensive restaurant than the usual ones, and we went in.

Sitting at a pleasant table outside, isolated from the others by curtains and wood that gave a certain independence, we enjoyed pleasant dishes of oriental cuisine and some special beers that they recommended to us.

After eating around 17 p.m., we retired to the hotel to rest, and took the opportunity to connect with family and friends, plan the next days, and watch sports and movies on television.

Tomorrow again on the road to Moose JawNear Regina, in the Canadian province of Saskatchewan.
