In your trip to Marrakech, riding a Morocco, when visiting the old Medina, my advice is that you “you lose" among its conglomerate of alleys to discover its beautiful corners and experience the great atmosphere that exists throughout the day.

However, to make the most of the visit from a tourist point of view, and not miss the most notable corners, you should know what the essential visits in the walled enclosure of the Marrakesh medina.

Below, and from my point of view, I indicate 5 essential visits in the Medina of Marrakech.

1.- Jemaa El Fna Square and the minaret of the Koutoubia Mosque

This huge square divided into two areas is the great center of Marrakech life. With totally different environments during the day and night, your visit to this beautiful city in Morocco should be marked by several visits to Jemaa El Fna Square.

Among its many attractions, from seeing the snake charmers, to eat cheap at beach bars that at night every day they settle in the square.

Also, from the Jemaa El Fna Square you can see the minaret of the Koutoubia Mosque, the largest in Marrakech and which is the great nerve center of the city.

2.- Souks of the Medina

from the same Jemaa El Fna Square extend to the north Souks, a large conglomerate of alleys covered with large awnings where, grouped in different areas and trades, you find the most varied shops.

I warn you that in the Marrakech souk It is impossible not to fall before the temptation to buy, yes, with the typical process of bargaining.

3.- Ben Youseff Madrasa

Right at the northern limit of the Souks, within the Medina of Marrakech, you find the Ben Youseff Madrasah, an old Koranic school from the 16th century, from an architectural point of view, one of the most beautiful corners of the Moroccan city.

In your visit to the Ben Youseff Madrassah You can enjoy a sublime decoration, which mixes marble, stucco, cedar wood and mosaics. It must be an essential visit on your trip.

4.- Bahia Palace

South of the Marrakesh medina, and just at the northern limit of the fortified enclosure of the Kasbah, you find the Bahia Palace, a building that is a true work of art of Moroccan architecture.

Built at the end of the 19th century, the Marrakesh Bay Palace, spread over a single floor with a labyrinth of rooms and patios (it has more than 150 rooms, although only part of it is visited...), where you can discover beautiful architectural corners.

5.- Saadian Tombs

And already within the precinct of the Kasbah, behind the mosque, you must not stop visit the Saadian tombs .

In this mausoleum of the Saadi dynasty, built between the 1904th and XNUMXth centuries, a place that was hidden for a long time until it was rediscovered in XNUMX.

In a small walled garden area there are several mausoleums, but it will be worth waiting in line to see the impressive Hall of Twelve Columns, the most beautiful corner of the Saadies Tombs and, possibly, what you can see in Marrakech.
