Among the great offer of museums in Madrid, possibly the museum of america It is one of the least known, and it is the institution in Spain that preserves the largest collection of archaeological and artistic pieces from America, with more than 26.000 objects.

Now you have a good opportunity to discover the museum of America, or visit it again, as has been my case, by signing up for one of the guided tours of the Peru collection that take place during the weekends.

La Peruvian collection of the Museum of America It is one of its great attractions, and in collaboration with PromPeru, tourism office of said American country, every weekend there are four routes through the museum with different approaches to the culture, history and attractions of Peru, through the collection of objects exhibited in the museum.

Routes of Peru in the Museum of America

So, you have a Archeology route that allows you to discover the ancient civilizations that have existed in Peru.

La Colonial route It focuses on the artistic expressions that existed during the Spanish colonial era and its ties with religion.

It also introduces you to everyday life through furniture, household items and personal ornaments.

La Ethnology route It delves into the traditional cultures of Peru, especially through festivals, dances and music.

And finally, the Nature route It allows you to discover the great diversity of landscapes that exist in said country, as well as its parks and natural reserves.

For my visit I chose the Archeology route, in which based on the knowledge of the different natural habitats that exist in Peru (dry coast, Andean mountain range, mountainous jungle, flat jungle), the great diversity of ancient cultures is understood.

Thus, beyond the most important and well-known, the Incas, during the visit you discover the characteristics of other cultures, such as Ugly, Sican, Nasca o Paracas.

On your tour of the museum you can see numerous objects, such as the fine ceramics of the culture Ugly, or ceramics Nasca, with symbols representing animals or their vessels trophy heads.

You will also see funerary trousseau incas, with its large vessels decorated with the ever-present symbol of the rhombus, or the impressive mummies from Paracas.

Without a doubt, participating in one of these guided tours is the best way to get to know and understand the museum's collection, and specifically, the Peruvian one.

For get to the museum of America You have to go to Moncloa, and you will find it next to the viewing tower known as Lighthouse of Moncloa.

The Visiting schedules for the Peruvian collection of the Museum of America They are Saturdays and Sundays, at 11 a.m. and 13 p.m., and they are distributed according to a established calendar, which for this year 2013 end on December 15.

The Peru visits are free, so you will only have to pay the price of admission to the museum (general, 3 euros; reduced, 1,5 euros). They last approximately one hour, and you can sign up for the theme you want; and even to take advantage of the visit to the museum, in two successive ones on the same day.
