Tusayan offers a reasonable alternative to the usurious prices Xanterra is asking to stay on the South Rim of the canyon. The town itself seems to have been built last week and there's nothing to do there after 8:30 pm. Having said that, the town does offer the most vegetarian friendly steakhouse imaginable (yes, looking at you Yippie-Ti-Yay) and a few other restaurants that are not national chains as well as a post office that . . . functions, tho the postmistress is not a very polite representative of the federal government.

The staff does not speak my language and there are some offers that they offered me but they did not tell me that Mondays did not apply. They did not know how to tell me where the entrance or the attractions for the Grand Canyon were, I would have liked information for any day of the week to be available . The place is pleasant, it is cold, the landscapes are very beautiful.

Tusayan is a cute, one-main-street town just south of the south entrance to the south rim of the Grand Canyon. People are very friendly here and Tusayan offers hotels/motels, restaurants, nice souvenir shopping, a homemade fudge/ice cream shop (that stays open later for those with a sweet tooth!), gas station, and bus stops with free shuttles that take you into the Grand Canyon area. As well, several Grand Canyon tour companies pick up in Tusayan. We really enjoyed our stay there! Just beware, the elk can get really close to/onto the roadway in the evenings. We were greeted by a small group of them very near to the first roundabout coming into Tusayan proper when driving in from the Camp Verde area. We enjoyed our meal at the Foodie Club - fresh ingredients/cool breakfast place with some other tasty stuff on the menu. And enjoyed the homemade fudge (lots of flavors available, they'll give you a sample to try a few if you can't decide) at Grand Canyon Chocolate Factory in Tusayan. We also loved the wide variety and pricing of souvenirs at the Grand Canyon Trading Post in Tusayan.

The location was great for proximity to the National Park and surrounding trails. Food and cocktails were convenient and great quality. Staff was very friendly, knowledgeable and accommodating. Couldn't have asked for better, and for a great price.

I liked that Tusayan was only about 6 miles from the Canyon.
I liked that Tusayan was only about 6 miles from the Canyon. We drove to the park at 7 AM and had breakfast at the El Tovar hotel in the park. No waiting to enter the park, and only a short wait for breakfast (with a window view of the canyon).
The town felt safe and was very quiet at night.
Inclusive breakfast that "the MOST helpful staff", even though it's serve yourself -- bringing juice and pancakes to hotel patrons. Actually, experienced a "fire alarm" at about 9:10AM the last morning of our stay. We were quickly asked to leave the building and within about 10 minutes an "all clear" came back as they had located the source of the alarm and determined there was not fire at that location. Enjoyed the small community of Tusayan!
The location of the hotel was super close to both the entrance of The Grand Canyon National Park and the airport where we booked a helicopter flight. The room was just great. Bonus points for the lady at check in that provided us with a ton of tips and information on where to go see sunrise in the park and where to get affordable gasoline and groceries. Much appreciated!
Location from the Grand Canyon park entrance was perfect. I was pleased with the room price I paid, which included standard hotel breakfast. The room was nice and large. Beds were comfortable. It snowed the night we stayed, but our room was warm & cozy. There are several food options nearby. We ate supper at a steak restaurant within sight from the hotel parking lot.
Pet friendly. Huge tv. Giant bathtub. Cold a/c. Close to entrance for the Grand Canyon. Dog area was close to our room and parking very near our room as well. Table and 2 chairs for dining and extra bench for seating in the room. The beds were very high and large and comfortable. You can drop off your postcards at the front desk for mail pickup.
Very spacious apartment a short drive from the Grand Canyon (in Tusayan). Our willingness to stay in Tusayan saved us hundreds (versus staying in Grand Canyon Village), to include better food options at a much cheaper price. The apartment was huge and offered plenty of space for us.
Very good location, easy access to the helicopter, plane and sunset tours.
Tusayan is a good base with good amenities nearby.
Hotel staff are helpful and the hotel itself is well equiped, with modern rooms.
Location very close to the Grand Canyon if this is your purpose for visiting.
Parking was ample and free. Staff very kind.
There are other restaurants near the hotel that is walkable.
Really liked the main hotel. Restaurants and bars. Great atmosphere. If we had it to do again we would have stayed in the hotel, however, we had dogs with us so chose studio.
Extremely spacious room which was clean with a comfortable bed. Free parking at the front of the hotel. The indoor hot tub was amazing. Very close to the Grand Canyon.
The location is very close to Grand Canyon NP. Food options are available in and outside the hotel. Decent sized bathroom. Room has two sinks. Cute indoor balcony.
